Strong points haul for Sauber Junior Team F2 squad in Britain

The Sauber Junior Team secured another well-deserved batch of points in the FIA Formula 2 Championship Sprint Race at Silverstone on Sunday.

The squad’s two rookie drivers displayed competitive pace at the fast and flowing British circuit, which has hosted international motorsport for more than 70 years.

Ferrari Driver Academy member Callum Ilott started the 21-lap Sprint Race from pole position after taking P8 during Saturday’s Feature Race. But a slow getaway from the line cost the Briton crucial time.

In a determined fightback, Ilott challenged title leader Nyck de Vries for the final place on the podium before taking the chequered flag in P4 in front of his home fans.

Sauber Junior Team scores F2 points and pole at Silverstone

The Sauber Junior Team enjoyed another points-winning outing in the FIA Formula 2 Championship Feature Race at Silverstone on Saturday – and secured a coveted pole position for Sunday’s Sprint Race.

The Czech-based squad entered the second half of the season eager to build on a promising first six rounds, which yielded regular points and three podium finishes.

For Callum Ilott, Silverstone represented a home fixture and the Briton fought for the points-paying positions throughout the 29-lap Feature Race.

Having qualified P6, the Ferrari Driver Academy member was unlucky to relinquish hard-fought places during the pit stop phase and he finished P8. The result netted him four championship points and places him in pole position for...
