Another F2 top 10 finish for Sauber Junior Team in Hungary

The Sauber Junior Team collected a top 10 finish during the FIA Formula 2 Championship Sprint Race at the Hungaroring on Sunday.

The squad’s rookie line-up of Ferrari Driver Academy member Callum Ilott and Alfa Romeo F1 Development Driver Juan Manuel Correa racked up more useful experience in a processional race at the home of the Hungarian Grand Prix.

Callum started P10 and worked his way past Nikita Mazepin to move to within striking distance of the points, although the Briton later relinquished a spot to Guanyu Zhou, coming home P10.

For Juan Manuel it was a lonely race as he carried his grid position of P14 to the conclusion of the 28-lap encounter.

Juan Manuel leaves Hungary P12 in the Drivers’ Championship, with Callum P14....

Sauber Junior Team extends F2 points run in Hungary

The Sauber Junior Team added another point to its collection during a tough FIA Formula 2 Championship Feature Race in Hungary on Saturday morning.

The squad’s rookie drivers Callum Ilott and Juan Manuel Correa lined up P6 and P11 respectively after battling torrential rain during qualifying.

The circuit dried overnight to ensure slicks could be used for the 37-lap race, but prospects of making gains were thwarted by a subdued getaway off the line for both drivers.

Callum, a race winner in the GP3 Series at the Hungaroring in 2018, dropped a spot to P7, and later battled an oil leak. The Ferrari Driver Academy protégé nonetheless held on to take P10, adding another point to his and Sauber Junior Team by Charouz’s tally.

Juan Manuel...

My start was okay but the two guys behind me got off really well.
