Sauber Junior Team in the F3 points again at Monza

The Sauber Junior Team capped a solid FIA Formula 3 Championship weekend at Monza by collecting more points in Sunday’s second race at the high-speed Italian circuit.

The driver development squad showed strong pace through Friday’s practice and qualifying sessions, which was built upon during Saturday’s opening race as Fabio Scherer finished P8 and scored four points.

The reversed-grid set-up put the Swiss driver on pole position for Sunday’s race, run in wet conditions following heavy rain in the morning.

Fabio remained in contention for victory when the track was at its wettest but his rivals were brought into play as the asphalt dried and he took the chequered flag in P7.

Team-mate Raoul Hyman started from P15 and rose to...

Bittersweet F3 opener for Sauber Junior Team at Monza

The Sauber Junior Team returned to the points-paying positions in the FIA Formula 3 Championship at Monza today, but was left to ponder a frustrating early exit from the lead.

The driver development squad reconvened in Italy under difficult circumstances after the tragic accident at Spa-Francorchamps last weekend that claimed the life of Anthoine Hubert and left Sauber Junior Team colleague Juan Manuel Correa in hospital with serious injuries.

Sauber Junior Team by Charouz’s trio of F3 chargers – Lirim Zendeli, Fabio Scherer and Raoul Hyman – bravely tackled the high-speed Monza circuit during Saturday morning’s first race of the weekend. Lirim started from a season-best P2, with Fabio P20 and Raoul P23.

A strong opening lap...
