Sauber Junior Team completes debut F3 season in Russia

The Sauber Junior Team wrapped up its maiden season in the FIA Formula 3 Championship at the Sochi Autodrom today, securing P8 in the final Teams’ Championship standings.

The newly-formed driver development programme has been delivered as a partnership between Sauber Motorsport and Charouz Racing System, and its F3 programme has been an integral part of its racing campaign in 2019.

Sunday’s second race in Russia brought down the curtain on the eight-round season, in which the team and its development drivers have gained valuable experience.

British driver Raoul Hyman backed up his points-scoring effort in Saturday’s first race by completing the 20-lap distance in P13.

Team-mate Fabio Scherer started from P27 on the grid and made...

Sauber Junior Team continues F3 points run in Russia

The Sauber Junior Team continued its points-scoring streak in the FIA Formula 3 Championship during Saturday’s opening race at Sochi Autodrom.

This weekend’s event in Russia marks the last of eight rounds in the inaugural year of the FIA-sanctioned category, with Sochi Autodrom a new venue for many teams and drivers.

The Sauber Junior Team by Charouz rookie squad arrived buoyed by two points-winning races at the last round in Italy, and again displayed strong pace when the cars took to the track.

Reigning F3 Asia Champion Raoul Hyman started from P15 and quickly worked his way into contention for the points.

The Briton occupied P9 and tried hard to chase down a virtual gap to a driver ahead who had a time penalty, but unfortunately...

The lap was insane, but it wasn’t quite enough. I’m happy to have points and it’s a nice boost.
