The home of the British Grand Prix will welcome the Sauber Junior Team’s FIA Formula 3 Championship drivers as the 2019 season reaches its mid-way point this weekend.

After challenging rounds in Spain and France, the Sauber Junior Team by Charouz squad earned its maiden Formula 3 points in Austria at the end of last month to move into P8 in the Teams’ Championship.

The iconic Silverstone Circuit will play host to the fourth round of the season this weekend (12-14 July) with the driver development team keen to build on its recent point-scoring form.

That will be the task that awaits reigning ADAC Formula 4 champion Lirim Zendeli, F3 podium finisher Fabio Scherer, and F3 Asia champion Raoul Hyman.

The high-speed 5.89km Silverstone Circuit provides a big test for both man and machine, with a sequence of medium- and high-speed corners putting extreme stress on tyres.

Antonin Charouz, Charouz Racing System owner, said: “We showed our car is capable of winning points at Spielberg last month and the focus for Silverstone has been on the work that’s required to try and get all three of our cars into that position this weekend. We’re hoping we can make another step in the UK.”

Jamie Dye, Team Manager, said: “We’re definitely moving forward in the championship and we’re getting more confident with each event. But we recognise that we need to get out of the blocks a bit faster during Friday practice. If that session goes well at Silverstone, we’ll head into qualifying in a better position. That positivity can make a huge difference across the entire race weekend.”

Lirim Zendeli said: “I’ve never raced at Silverstone, but I tested there once, and it’s a beautiful circuit with lots of fast corners. I know I can be strong there. Every day we’re learning with the car, what steps we can take, and how I can also improve as a driver. It’s good to have another race weekend so soon after Spielberg so we can maintain the momentum.”

Fabio Scherer said: “I have good memories of Silverstone because it’s the track where I secured my first F3 pole position in the European championship last year. It’s one of my favourite circuits because it’s so quick and there are some cool corners. I’ve been working with the team since Austria and I hope we can find some good pace this weekend.”

Raoul Hyman said: “Silverstone was where I did my first race in cars in BRDC F4 and I got my first win and pole a year later, so there’s lots of happy memories at the circuit. It’s an amazing track so I’m happy to be back racing at Silverstone. We’re confident that we’re heading in the right direction and that we can show an improved performance this weekend.”
